PTM WEEKLY UPDATE -- MARCH 24, 2008
"Jesus tells the uppity religious folk a thing or two"
Stevie Rey may not be an actual hillbilly, but he definitely speaks the language. Memphis resident (and occasional writer for Plain Truth) Stevie has created The Hillbilly Bible -- the Gospel of John written in southern dialect. It brings out new insights into the loving heart of God and the supreme sacrifice of Jesus. His heart and his humor come shining through in this wonderfully creative paraphrase. Here's a sample:
"Fer the good Lord commenced to hankerin' after the world something fierce, and up and gave 'ees only boy so's whoever took a notion to believe in 'eem ort not die, but just keep on livin' with 'eem in heaven ferever n' ever."
And another sample:
"Stop flappin' yer jaws, y'all," Jesus says, "Nary a one a ye can come to me, less'n the Daddy reels 'em in, and I sure 'nuff will raise 'em up at the end a time."
The Bible has been paraphrased many times -- but none have been quite like this one. Like any paraphrase, it gives fresh meaning and fresh perspective on Scripture that you may have read many times before. For more details, click here.
