PTM WEEKLY UPDATE -- JUNE 29, 2009

And in conclusion . . .
40 Years Later: The seven children in The Sound of Music

The Sound of Music won the Academy Award for Best Picture of 1965 and is one of the most popular musicals ever produced.

Remember the seven children of the von Trapp family?

Here they are at a reunion some 40 years later .

This photo from the set of The Sound of Music shows:

1. Liesl -- Charmian Carr
2. Friedrich -- Nicholas Hammond
3. Louisa -- Heather Menzies
4. Kurt -- Duane Chase
5. Marta -- Debbie Turner
6. Brigitta -- Angela Cartwright
7. Gretl -- Kym Karath

The same actors in a recent photo, with Julie Andrews at center.

One of the most memorable songs from The Sound of Music was "My Favorite Things," sung in the movie by Julie Andrews.

Much later, in 2001, a new version of the song surfaced on the Internet with revised lyrics. We print this version for you below. This is suitable to be sung to (or to be sung by) anyone over the age of 60. The PTM staff sang this song to Greg Albrecht when he recently turned 62!

My Favorite Things -- "Blue Hair" Version

Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Cadillac's and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favorite things.

When the pipes leak, When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favorite things.

Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short, shrunken frames,
When we remember our favorite things.

When the joints ache, When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad
