Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus
Where Do We Turn When…..
Haven’t we all at times felt swept up in the swirling activities and events of life? When so much is happening all around us and to us that we feel out of control, where do we turn for some stability, calm, peace and meaningful direction?
My wife and I had the honor of singing this song, with some additions, as an anthem.
“Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus” (by Helen Lemmel)
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of his glory and grace.
Fix your Eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of his glory and grace.
Keep your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of his glory and grace.

I have this “meme,” or variant thereof, in my mind – “Goodbye Cruel World; Hello New World”
The world in a whirlpool sometimes violent, sometimes less so, but ever swirling drawing more and more societies, cultures and citizens into its vortex. There are believers in Jesus turning, fixing, keeping their eyes on him, trusting him, raised up alongside of Jesus, safe from the deadly whirlpool.
Jesus, alongside of God the Father is observing and in complete control, biding His time to calm the raging whirlpool that has the world and its citizens swirling in its overpowering force – some struggling mightily to swim out of it and others weakly giving in. At the right time Jesus speaks the word and the enemy of God and of humanity who stirs the whirlpool with hate, lies, fear, obsession with money, division, disorder, confusion, greed, war, murder, entertainment escapism, meaningless sensuality, hunger for power and every sinister detestable evil is dispatched.
The waters become calm. The people are saved from the dizzying precarious condition of the whirlpool. The people turn their eyes to Jesus. They fix their eyes on Jesus, his love and his power. He has calmed the waters of their lives and saved them. Keeping their eyes on Jesus, they trust Him and walk with Him, the Way, the Truth and Eternal Life.
